HostDime was founded in 2001 and quickly grow to the point where they are now one of the largest hosting providers around. With over two million domains hosted on their servers, they are able to support just about any type of website.
They have data centers in multiple areas including the US, Europe, South America and more. HostDime offers everything from entry level shared hosting packages all the way up to high end dedicated severs, making them a great choice for just about any type of site.
If you browse their Facebook or other social media page you will see some upset customers who experienced less than helpful customer service. It is difficult to tell if this is actually a problem or just that these people are the ones doing the most posting. Either way, with 2 million+ customers, you’re going to have a few bad experiences. Overall, however, their services seem to be highly rated by current customers.
Uptime & Reliability
Great uptime with complicated guarantees
Each package comes with an uptime guarantee of 99.9% in a given month. If your site drops below this level, you will get a credit to your account based on how much downtime you had. If it goes just below 99.9%, you get 10% off the fee. If it falls between 90 and 94.9% uptime for the month, you’ll get a 25% credit for the month. Below 90% earns you a free month.
Despite the complicated (but generous) guarantee, the uptime overall seems to be very good. Most people won’t experience any problems or need to claim their discounted prices.
Features
Great features for all types of websites
HostDime has something for everyone in their extensive list of packages. For shared hosting, they have three different plans, all of which are Linux based. They do have some limitations throughout all three packages, but they get less restrictive as you go up.
You can also choose from three different reseller plans, which provide for unlimited domains and a full 100Mbps connection.
When you get up to the VPS plans you can choose between Linux and Windows for your operating system. Interestingly, they still limit you on disk space and bandwidth (all their packages have these limitations). There are a total of six VPS plans to look at, three Linux and three Windows.
Finally, their dedicated servers come in five different options depending on the type of server you need. Anything from 2gigs of ram up to 16, and their CPUs are all dual core, quad core or hexa core (top end only). Like the other hosting options, this too has some limitations in disk space and bandwidth.
Support
Good support with a questionable reputation
Just about every negative thing that is posted about HostDime is related to their technical or customer support team. People have commented that they are rude, arrogant and often take longer than they should to address issues. On the other hand, however, they have also gotten a lot of positive comments in this area from their customer.
From what I can tell, it seems to be a mixed bag, which is not surprising when looking at a company of this size. They have support teams in multiple countries, so it is likely all going to depend on who you happen to talk to in the event that you have a problem.
Pricing
Mostly industry standard pricing with some optional add-ons
When you look through the different hosting packages you will find that the pricing is fairly standard. You can save some money by signing up for an annual contract on any of their packages. Most things that you need will be included in the package, which is nice. They do offer things like SSL for an added fee.
They have a 90 day satisfaction guarantee, but you must provide a reason why you aren’t happy if you want to get a refund. If they don’t think your reason is valid (meaning that they tried and failed to fix it) you won’t get the money back. This is an unusual guarantee to say the least.
Summary
Great hosting with lots of options
It is really not surprising that this company is one of the larger hosting providers in the world. They have a lot to offer and do quite a good job overall. There are some complaints about their customer service and support teams, but it is impossible for a company this size not to have at least a few complaints posted about it. They have A LOT of different packages to choose from, so many that it can actually get confusing.
Pros:
- Large company
- Global hosting options
- Generous uptime guarantee
- Room to grow from shared all the way to dedicated
- High end hardware available
Cons:
- No unlimited packages available
- Too many hosting packages to choose from
- Some reputation for poor customer service
- Terrible cancellation policy
