IONOS operates 10 data centers across 5 countries: the US, UK, Germany, France, and Spain. You can choose your server location for VPS, Cloud, and Dedicated plans, but not for shared hosting.
All facilities are ISO 27001-certified and run on Equinix infrastructure. IONOS has no presence in Asia-Pacific, Australia, or Africa. If your audience is in those regions, use the free Cloudflare CDN included with most plans.
Where Are IONOS Servers Located?
IONOS has data centers in 5 countries, spread across 10 facilities. All are operated in partnership with Equinix, one of the world’s largest colocation providers. Here is the full breakdown:
| Country | City / Location | Notes |
| United States | Newark, New Jersey | East Coast hub |
| United States | Las Vegas, Nevada | West Coast hub |
| United States | Lenexa, Kansas | Largest US facility (40,000+ servers) |
| Germany | Frankfurt (2 facilities) | Primary European hub |
| Germany | Berlin | Secondary German site |
| United Kingdom | London | Major UK facility |
| United Kingdom | Worcester | Secondary UK site |
| France | Paris | VPS only |
| Spain | Logroño | Available on VPS and Dedicated |
Important: The IONOS website can be misleading. Not all data centers listed on their “data centers” page are available for every hosting plan. The table above shows all physical locations. Availability by plan is covered in the next section.

Which Locations Are Available for Each Hosting Plan?
This is where most guides fall short. IONOS restricts location choice depending on which product you buy.
Shared Hosting: No Location Choice
If you are on shared hosting, you cannot select a data center. IONOS mirrors shared servers across two locations automatically. The upside is that you still get Cloudflare CDN included, which serves your content from the nearest edge node to each visitor, partially offsetting the lack of location control.
VPS Hosting: Full Location Choice (Best Selection)
VPS is where IONOS gives you the most geographic flexibility. Before you hit “Configure,” you will be prompted to pick a data center, and the plan options refresh based on your selection. Available locations:
- United States: Newark (NJ), Las Vegas (NV), Lenexa (KS)
- Germany: Frankfurt, Berlin
- United Kingdom: London, Worcester
- Spain: Logroño

Pricing is consistent across all locations. IONOS does not charge extra for any specific data center.
Dedicated Servers: Same as VPS, Minus Paris
Dedicated server plans (both AMD and Intel) mirror VPS location options with one difference: Paris is not available. You can choose from:
- United States: Newark (NJ), Las Vegas (NV), Lenexa (KS)
- Germany: Frankfurt, Berlin, Germany Baden
- United Kingdom: London, Worcester
- Spain: Logroño
- France (Marked “Available Soon”)

Storage servers follow the same location list but cannot be configured online. You need to call IONOS directly to arrange a storage server in a specific location.
Cloud Hosting: Enterprise Locations via Equinix
IONOS Cloud uses the same 10 data centers but operates under a tighter enterprise-grade framework, with geo-redundancy as a built-in feature.
All IONOS Cloud facilities run through Equinix, giving you access to Frankfurt x2, Berlin, Paris, London, Worcester, Logroño, Las Vegas, Newark, and Lenexa.
Quick Reference: Location Availability by Plan
| Plan Type | Location Choice | Available Regions |
| Shared Hosting | No | Auto-assigned (mirrored) |
| VPS Hosting | Yes | US, UK, Germany, Spain |
| Dedicated Servers | Yes | US, UK, Germany, Spain, France (Available soon) |
| Cloud Hosting | Yes | US, UK, Germany, France, Spain |

A Closer Look at the Data Centers
Lenexa, Kansas: The Flagship US Facility
The Lenexa data center is IONOS’s largest property in North America, housing over 40,000 servers. In 2024, IONOS expanded it to support Cloud products, including Compute Engine, Cloud Cubes VPS, block storage, and DBaaS. The facility was also fitted with over 1,000 photovoltaic solar panels rated at 400kW, enough to cover more than 20% of site power demand at peak sunlight.
Frankfurt: The European Hub
Frankfurt is IONOS’s primary European hub, with two separate facilities: Frankfurt 1 and Frankfurt 2. Both are operated through Equinix, giving IONOS access to one of Europe’s most interconnected carrier-neutral data center environments. In early 2025, IONOS announced a third German data center, bringing its global total to 32 facilities.
ISO 27001 Certification Across All Sites
Every IONOS data center, regardless of location, is ISO 27001 certified. This is the international standard for information security management, covering access controls, physical security, and data handling. For European businesses, this also matters for GDPR compliance when selecting a local data center.
How to Pick the Right IONOS Server Location
Choosing the right location comes down to three factors: where your audience is, your legal and compliance requirements, and how much performance matters for your use case.
Rule 1: Pick the Closest Location to Your Visitors
Server location directly affects Time to First Byte (TTFB). Hosting in Newark when most of your traffic comes from Germany adds unnecessary latency. A rough guide:
- US East Coast audience: Newark (NJ)
- US West Coast audience: Las Vegas (NV)
- UK audience: London
- Central Europe: Frankfurt
- French or Southern European audience: Paris (VPS only)
- Spanish-speaking Europe: Logroño
Rule 2: Consider Data Sovereignty
If you handle personal data under GDPR, hosting in Germany or the UK means your data stays within those jurisdictions. IONOS’s German facilities are particularly strong for EU-based businesses that need to demonstrate data residency.
Rule 3: Account for IONOS’s Coverage Gaps
IONOS has no presence in Asia-Pacific, Australia, South America, Africa, or the Middle East. If you serve audiences in these regions, you have two practical options:
- Use Cloudflare CDN (free with most IONOS plans) to cache static assets at edge locations worldwide
- Consider a hybrid setup: IONOS for your primary hosting, with a CDN or secondary provider handling traffic from underserved regions
Note: If your audience is primarily in India, Southeast Asia, or Australia, IONOS may not be the ideal primary host. Providers like DigitalOcean or Hostinger offer data centers in Singapore, Bangalore, or Sydney that would give you significantly lower TTFB for those regions.
Can You Change Your IONOS Server Location Later?
Yes. IONOS allows you to migrate to a different data center after your initial setup. This is useful if your audience shifts geographically over time.
However, migration is not instant or seamless. When you move to a new location, IONOS assigns a new IP address, and you will need to manually reconfigure the following:
- DNS settings pointing to your new IP
- SSL certificates (if IP-bound)
- Any firewall rules tied to the old IP
- Email delivery settings such as SPF and DKIM if server-based
Plan for a short window of downtime or DNS propagation delay when making a location switch.
