Net Laputa is a Japanese company that has been in business since 2005. They are focused on providing shared hosting services and while they are certainly not the largest hosting company around, they seem to do a pretty good job. Their website has a very “Japanese style” to it which you may or may not like depending on your own personal taste. It does load fast and is easy to navigate. It is in Japanese of course and I didn’t see a native translation option to English on the site so I had to use my browser’s plugin to get it done. If you’re looking for very simple and affordable hosting in Japan, this is a good company to look at.
Uptime & Reliability
Seems to be Stable Hosting
From what I have been able to find, this company provides good stable hosting. There is some concern regarding slowness, which is common with shared hosting providers. Most people won’t have an issue but if/when some sites are getting lots of traffic on the same servers as you it can slow things down. Overall, however, the uptime and reliability is pretty good and most people will be more than happy with the performance.
Features
Simple Hosting Features
They only offer shared hosting services, and only three options in that category. Each option, however, will likely have plenty of features based on what you need. The entry level hosting has 20 gigs and that goes up to 100 gigs of disk space for the top level. They do limit you on number of databases (10, 20 and 30 depending on the package) which is unfortunate, but most people won’t need more than a few anyway. They also limit you on domains and sub-domains (5, 10, 20). As you look through the features you’ll see they are all mostly basic.
Support
Limited Information Available
There is very little information available about their support services. They likely provide you all the details only after signing up, which is unfortunate. I did not find anyone having issues with their support and most people who use this type of hosting don’t need much support anyway because they aren’t doing much advanced work. That being said, it would be nice if they provided more information right on their website.
Pricing
Low Prices
The prices are very reasonable. Starting at 2800 yen and moving to 10,000 yen. The first month is also free, which is nice. They seem to offer a free month each year too, which will save you a little money. Overall, the pricing is pretty good for what you’re getting.
Summary
Good Basic Hosting
This is obviously a basic hosting company that is focused on people who just need something simple. There are millions of people who need this type of thing so there is nothing wrong with that. If you want your site hosted in Japan and you know you’ll never need to move beyond a good shared hosting package, this is a good company to consider.
Pros:
- Low Prices (free month)
- Decent Features
Cons:
- Only Offering Shared Hosting
