How to Create a Subdomain Using cPanel

How to Create a Subdomain Using cPanel

Every now and then it’s asked as if subdomains benefit the main domain of the website. Well, the search engine treats subdomains in a totally different way.

Although there is some advantage but not so much. First of all, you should learn what’s a subdomain and how to create it using cPanel.

You may have seen many websites having a support or a public forum to discuss the problems related to their product.

For example, your website is www.yoursite.com and you want to create a forum. You can create a subdomain. Let’s say it forum.yoursite.com.

Many people get confused between a subdomain and a subdirectory.

  • forum.yoursite.com is a subdomain.
  • www.yoursite.com/forum is a subdirectory.

Do you know how to create a subdomain using cPanel? If not, you can follow this tutorial and within a few minutes, you can have a brand new subdomain.

Step by Step Guide to Create a Subdomain

Whenever I start writing something related to cPanel, I always suggest that while handling a website, it’s really important to learn the basics of cPanel.

As you know, most of the people use shared web hosting and cPanel is the only way to accomplish the tasks they have in their mind.

I am going to walk you through the process of creating a subdomain. Follow these steps.

Step 1

You need to have the access to cPanel. Many web hostings use the AMP(Account Management Panel) so don’t panic when you don’t see the cPanel icon for the first time.

Step 2

A new tab will open for you which will directly guide you to add the subdomain’s details. Let me make you understand the details you have to add.

Taking the earlier mentioned example, forum is for subdomain and yoursite.com is the root domain. You can also choose the Document Root but if you don’t know about it, leave it as it is.

Depending on the number of websites you host at your web hosting, you can choose the root domain from the drop-down menu.

Once you do it, click on the Create button.

Step 3

I have created support.blogginglove.com. Once you click on the create button, the page will get refreshed and you will see the subdomain name.

A message will be appearing to notify you that the subdomain has been created. Now, you have to make sure that you have done it right.

To do so, click on the Go Back link.

Step 4

It will take you to the subdomain’s management page where you can see the current subdomains which have been created.

Scroll down and check the subdomain you have just created. If you see it, congrats, you have successfully created a subdomain.

Now you may be wondering as if what should be done with this subdomain.

As you know, millions of people are using WordPress because it’s one of the best and easiest Content Management Systems.

You can try installing WordPress on this subdomain.

You are not bound to use WordPress. Every web hosting offers many CMSs to use.

  • Joomla
  • Drupal
  • Prestashop
  • WordPress

And you will be happy to know that most of that can be installed using the one-click installation feature. As you know, Softaculous is one of the most used tools in cPanel.

As I have given two examples above, you can create as many subdomains as your web hosting plan allows.

On an average, the web hosting allows unlimited subdomains on their most used plan. And even if you don’t get unlimited subdomains, you can still have at least 5.

And for one root domain, 5 subdomains are more than enough.

I Hope You Can Easily Create a Subdomain Using cPanel

I remember when I started using cPanel and creating a subdomain was a big deal for me. Just like me, most of the people fret a lot.

It’s because, on the web, these technical terms are explained in a scary way. It’s so hard to find an easy to follow guide.
